Nevada Small Business Development Center celebrates SBDC Day, honoring outstanding small businesses and entrepreneurs
The Nevada Small Business Development Center (SBDC) has honored three exceptional businesses and individuals with the inaugural SBDC Awards. These award winners exemplify innovation, dedication and the entrepreneurial spirit that drive Nevada’s economy forward.
The Nevada SBDC, housed within the College of Business at the University of Nevada, Reno, serves as a statewide resource for business assistance. It provides expert guidance, training and support for entrepreneurs at every stage from startup to growth and expansion.
This year’s honorees are:
- Small Business of the Year – Avanti Green Eco Cleaning
- Rural Small Business of the Year – JT’s Steakhouse
- Nevada SBDC Small Business Champion – Shaundell Newsome, founder of SUMNU Marketing
The Small Business of the Year award was presented to Avanti Green Eco Cleaning. Avanti Green Eco Cleaning, established in 2011, is a local, women-owned business dedicated to providing high-quality, eco-friendly cleaning services in Las Vegas, North Las Vegas and Henderson.
The Rural Small Business of the Year award was presented to JT’s Steakhouse, a standout business that has significantly contributed to its local economy by offering high-quality dining experiences and fostering community engagement in Ely, Nevada. Owner Jess Trask supplies all the restaurant’s beef from her family farm, Perido Hay & Cattle, while her husband, Terrill Trask, serves as the chef.
The Nevada SBDC Small Business Champion award honored Shaundell Newsome, founder and visionary of SUMNU Marketing, for his unwavering support and advocacy for small businesses in Nevada. His leadership, mentorship and commitment to entrepreneurship have made a lasting impact on the business community.
The awards were presented at SBDC Day, on March 19, a national celebration recognizing the contributions of small businesses and the resources available to support them.
