Searsport business featured in Google AD for Super Bowl Sunday
SEARSPORT, Maine (WABI) – Many people are gearing up for the Super Bowl.
Checking off the food list, beverages and so much more.
However one business in Searsport is checking off a huge accomplishment this Super Bowl Sunday.
For over 40 years Lynn and Dale Cottrell have run their small business Cottrell Boatbuilding.
“My husband has been building boats since he was in his teens and he started out building surfboards and then he moved onto canoes and then he moved onto boats,” said Lynn Cottrell, owner of Cottrell Boatbuilding.
They started their own business out of Searsport and the profession continued with their children.
“They had grown up building boats in our shop when they were in their teens so they’ve been doing it for a long time,” said Cottrell.
“Small boat builders of Maine are fewer and farther between so I guess in that aspect it is nice that you’re carrying on an art form that otherwise would eventually be forgotten,” said Seth Cottrell, their son.
The hard work surprised them when Lynn got a call from Google asking if they would want to be a part of an advertisement with them.
“I said right, how much money do you want me to send you,” said Lynn.
After a few more calls and emails, she realized it was a real thing.
They were the one small business in Maine selected to advertise for Super Bowl Sunday.

Cottrell said it’s a reflection of their dedication to a historic industry in Maine, a line of work that’s been passed down for generations.
“We’re really lucky we are able to do this work and we do love it and we know that the people who buy our boats – they love them,” said Cottrell.
