Vêsucré wins manufacturing award from the New York Small Business Development Centers
ONEONTA, N.Y. (WBNG) — As a self-proclaimed life-long foodie, Sarah Hartmann had a hard time finding a vegan-friendly dessert option. She decided to take to her own kitchen to solve her issue, and Vesucre was born.
“It combines oat with sesame and dates, and the results are this very rich, custardy, creamy, almost like a frozen custard,” said Hartmann. “I very often describe it as a cross between “a French ice cream and crème brûlée.”
According to Hartmann, the word “vêsucré” is a made-up French word, like Häagen-Dazs, that means “vegan sweets.” Her new formula doesn’t include soy, gluten, or refined sugar.
“In the next five years, we hope to be all across the United States,” Hartmann told 12 News. “We’re so fortunate right now to be in 450 stores in 11 states.”
Vêsucré prides itself on inclusion, offering employment opportunities to those developmentally disabled residents at Arc Otsego and Pathfinder Village.
“Inclusion, along with sustainability and innovation, those are of our three pillars at Vesucre,” she said. “Since day one, I knew that I wanted to partner with the three amazing service providers who serve the community of intellectually and developmentally disabled folks in the region,” said Hartmann
On Thursday, Vêsucré was presented with the Manufacturer of the Year award from the New York Small Business developments centers for its achievements.
Hartmann says she is looking forward to expanding her in-store inventory to the south before moving into the Midwest.
